DRC Diamond Exports Reach USD 66.4 Million in Q3 2024, Driven by Artisanal Production

In the third quarter of 2024, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) saw diamond exports generate approximately USD 66.4 million, according to a report from the Technical Cell for Coordination and Mining Planning (CTCPM).

The artisanal sector led the exports, with approximately 7.4 million carats exported, yielding an estimated USD 42.8 million in revenue.

Export data by comptoir reveals that MALABAR was the leading exporter, accounting for 32% of the total quantity, followed by DIAMAZ with 21%, SAGA at 16%, AMAZONA at 19%, and MIABI at 9%.

The MIABI comptoir closed after its final export in April 2024, while the newly approved DIAMAZ comptoir made its first export in May 2024.

The DRC’s Ministry of Mines reported that 100% of the industrial diamond exports, amounting to 1.9 million carats and valued at USD 23.6 million, came from SACIM.

Diamond exports in Q3 2024 were largely driven by artisanal production, with MIBA opting to sell its production locally. SACIM was the only industrial company to export during this period.

In terms of export destinations, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led with 53% of the total exports, followed by the European Union (Belgium) with 45%. Other destinations included India (2%), China (0.004%), Botswana (0.003%), and the United States (0.0005%).

When compared to the third quarter of 2023, there was a 17% increase in the volume of diamond exports during this period.
